The objective of this project was to convert an average bungalow into a contemporary open plan home for a young family. The ceilings in the existing house were not as high as some traditional houses and so we wanted to make the the extension feel more voluminous. By using a scissor truss system we were able to keep the costs low. The Velux rooflight sits within the vaulted ceiling in the lounge and the plasterboard linings are formed to draw the eye up to the sky light as one moves from the entrance hall to the lounge. A second Velux rooflight is slotted between the eaves and attic walls to bring light into the central dining area and connect with the shelving room divider.
