Nicholson Nairn Architects
Riding Mill, Northumberland
Nicholson Nairn Architects were commissioned to carry out detailed design and site delivery on the erection of two large contemporary family homes.
The buildings and ancillary detached garage blocks are essentially mirrored within the elevated woodland plot, however subtle elevational treatments provide a clear identity for both dwellings. These changes included differing cladding and contrasting feature glazing.
The rural setting dictated traditional forms and material pallet. This approach was complimented by contemporary elements with large expanses of glazing and modern detailing. Traditional exposed oak beams combine with contemporary elements, such as large scale glazed sliding doors, to provide successful cohesion in the development.
