Graystone Road, Whitstable
This property in Whitstable, East Kent, started out as a traditional bungalow. The owners, an elderly couple, were keen to modernise the dwelling and reconfigure the layout to create a futureproof home suitable for their needs.
Having tackled extension and refurbishment projects in the past, the pair were not strangers to significant home improvement schemes. They worked closely with the team at Blink Architecture to develop a design that responded to each of their unique requirements.
The main aim was to provide living accommodation on the ground floor, including an accessible wet room. The new floorplan also comprises an open-plan kitchen-dining-living area and a spacious sun-soaked lobby. Large door openings have been incorporated in case one of the occupants becomes a wheelchair user in the future. Level thresholds to the outside have also been fitted so it’s possible to enjoy the landscaped garden without any access restrictions.
The exterior of the property has been modernised, too. Keen to create a modern look, the owners specified a crisp, white render finish. This complements the grey aluminium-frame windows and charcoal-coloured roof slates. Thanks to the eclectic design of local properites, the scheme obtained planning consent with no difficulties. New pavers and flagstones have also been laid in the driveway, further enhancing the home’s kerb appeal.
